How to Take Apart ASUS Laptops
- 1). Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power cable and all peripheral devices from the computer. Close the LCD screen, and then place the laptop face down. Rotate the laptop so the front is facing forward. Locate the battery cover at the top of the laptop's bottom casing. Press on the locking tabs, and then remove the battery cover. Lift the battery pack out of its compartment and set it aside.
- 2). Remove all hardware covers from the laptop's bottom casing. Remove all hardware devices from the bottom of the laptop. This task varies widely from laptop to laptop. Some Asus laptops have the majority of the hardware connected to the computer at the bottom of the laptop. In other cases, the only hardware accessible from the bottom of the laptop is the RAM, modem and wireless cards.
- 3). Flip the laptop over, and open the LCD screen all the way. Disengage the keyboard's locking tabs behind the top row of keys. Grasp the top edge of the keyboard, tilt the keyboard upwards, and then place the keyboard face down over the palm rest. Disconnect the keyboard's ribbon cable from the motherboard, and remove the keyboard from the laptop.
- 4). Remove the screws securing the motherboard's metal cover to the laptop. Locate and disconnect the trackpad cable from the motherboard near the trackpad assembly. Insert a small, flat-head screwdriver just beneath the trackpad buttons near the bottom of the laptop. Begin to pry off the top casing of the laptop, while working your way around the circumference of the laptop. Disengage the LCD hinge clips from the laptop's upper casing. Carefully remove the laptop's entire upper casing and set it aside. This will reveal the entire motherboard.
