Foods to Eat for More Energy

    • Few people think about proteins as an important way to increase your energy. In fact, many types of healthy protein are an excellent way to become energized while losing weight. The protein goes straight toward building muscle mass, allowing your body to break down fat, which releases large amounts of energy.

Good sources of protein (and thereby energy) include eggs--the highest complete variety of protein available--salmon and almonds. Besides containing protein, salmon and almonds also contain vitamin B6, niacin and riboflavin, which are important in converting food into energy.

    • Carbohydrates are your body's primary source of energy, but it is important to choose your carbohydrates wisely. Brown rice and other whole grains give your body energy that is released over time, rather than used up all at once. For a quick burst of energy, however, try some honey, a sweet treat that can help replenish lost energy.

    Fruits and Vegetables

    • Most fruits contain large amounts of glucose, which provides energy for the body. Glucose is also metabolized relatively quickly, so you'll get the burst of energy that you need right away. Try fruits that are higher in fiber, such as apples, that will continue to provide you with energy throughout the day. Vegetables that are rich in iron, such as spinach, are also important in keeping your energy levels high.
